We leave Quito in the morning at approximately 8:00 and head south of the country towards one of the most important protected areas in Ecuador and one of the most desired by mountaineers in the world, the Cotopaxi volcano and national park (5,897 masl). We continue ascending to the José Rivas Refuge which is located at 4,850 masl. We will appreciate the beautiful landscape of the valley and we will be closer to the glacier. Then we will visit the Limpiopungo lagoon at 3,896 masl, a place that will allow us to appreciate different species of flora and fauna such as the Andean teal, the Andean coot, the lapwings, the cara cara among others. Later we will arrive at the Mariscal Sucre Visitor Center. In this place it is important to learn about the phases of the páramo, as well as information about the emergence of springs and various lagoons such as Limpiopungo, among others. Time for Lunch (Not Included). Finally, return to the capital.
